Frequently Asked Questions

The questions patients ask most often — about referrals, insurance, what a first visit involves, and what recovery is realistically like.

These answers cover the practice as a whole. Questions specific to an individual condition or procedure are answered on that topic's own page — links are given throughout.

Getting Started

No referral is needed to book a consultation at Avancé Vein Care. Some insurance plans — particularly certain HMO products — require a referral for coverage, which is separate from whether we can see you. Benefits are verified before treatment is scheduled. See insurance & coverage.
Dr. Tadepalli takes a history, examines both legs and performs a duplex ultrasound himself, standing, to map where reflux is occurring. Findings are explained on the screen in plain language. If treatment is appropriate the options are discussed; if it is not, you will be told so.
Dr. Tadepalli personally, so the physician acquiring the images is the one reading them, and the physician you meet at the consultation is the one who performs your treatment. More on the physician page.
The office is at 1 Wilson Dr, Suite 2A, Sparta, NJ 07871, just off Route 15. There is free parking directly outside the building and Suite 2A is on an accessible route from the car park. Directions are on the contact page, and the areas we cover are listed under areas we serve.

Insurance & Cost

Treatment of symptomatic vein disease is frequently covered when it is documented as medically necessary. Purely cosmetic treatment of spider veins generally is not. Most plans require a duplex ultrasound demonstrating reflux and a documented trial of conservative therapy first. Coverage criteria vary between insurers, so benefits are verified and pre-authorisation obtained before treatment.
Treatment of spider veins for appearance alone is typically considered cosmetic and is not covered. Where spider veins are a surface sign of underlying venous reflux, the evaluation and the treatment of that underlying reflux may be covered. The duplex ultrasound distinguishes between the two situations.

Treatment & Recovery

Office-based vein procedures are performed under local anaesthesia and most patients walk out the same day and return to desk work within a day or two. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting are usually deferred for one to two weeks. Your specific plan depends on the procedure performed.
Procedures are performed under local anaesthesia and most patients tolerate them well, but experience varies from person to person. Aching, bruising and tenderness along the treated vein for some days to weeks afterwards are common and expected. Dr. Tadepalli reviews the specific risks of your procedure with you beforehand.
A properly closed vein does not reopen in most cases, but vein disease is a progressive condition and new veins can become incompetent over time. Recurrence is more likely when an underlying source of reflux has not been fully addressed. Follow-up ultrasound is part of the process. See varicose veins.
